Midad is a national initiative dedicated to promoting social engagement and participation among young men and women in Arab society. AJEEC – The Negev Institute operates the program in the towns of Kuseife and Segev Shalom, aiming to create a significant and long-term impact in these communities.
The Midad program focuses on several key objectives: promoting long-term engagement among young adults, creating and strengthening local infrastructures for social and community involvement, and empowering organizations and platforms that advance youth participation in Arab society.
As part of the program, participants undergo an in-depth process of identity exploration, personal empowerment, self-efficacy development, and encouragement of active social involvement. The program includes a variety of activities: close professional mentoring, enriching seminars, special peak days, steering committee activities, local roundtable discussions, and Hebrew language studies to enhance communication skills and integration into Israeli society.
The program shifts the focus from mere volunteering to a broader and more meaningful concept of social engagement and participation. Midad emphasizes strengthening and empowering its participants, equipping them with practical skills that will serve them throughout their lives. The program ensures the equal inclusion of young men and women from diverse backgrounds and operates in full collaboration with local authorities to ensure the sustainability and continuity of projects.
Throughout the program year, participants develop and establish a social project that addresses real community needs—one that continues to operate and make an impact even after the formal program ends.
Graduates of Midad complete the program with a strong sense of identity, high self-efficacy, digital literacy, and a clear plan for their future. On a social level, they develop motivation and practical skills to lead change, initiate social projects, and positively influence their communities. Additionally, the program provides its graduates with guidance and pathways toward higher education and employment, helping them build a meaningful personal and professional future.
